Olives still grow on the Vouves olive tree in Crete, which grew up before our era and is over 2000 years old. As archaeologist Tisia Verveer said in her Twiiter, this tree stood here when Rome burned in 64 CE, and Pompeii was buried under a thick carpet of volcanic ash in 79.
Archaeological excavations around the tree showed that there is a cemetery around 900-700 years. BC.
