Scientists have confirmed that wormwood extract slows down the formation of new coronavirus particles in lung cells. The doctors are going to continue the experiments.
American biologists under the leadership of Worcester Polytechnic Institute professor Pamela Weathers have tested how herbal decoctions work on infected cells. The researchers treated cells of the lungs and other body tissues with extracts of various varieties of wormwood. The results of the work were published by the scientific library bioRxiv.
It turned out that plant extracts cannot neutralize viral particles. But they can prevent their reproduction and penetration into cells.
Scientists do not urge to independently fight the coronavirus with wormwood decoctions. The study will continue: doctors will have to study in more detail the composition of the herbal remedy and assess its safety.
