Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said he was ready to be the first to receive the Russian coronavirus vaccine. He said this on August 11, answering a question about registration in Russia of the world’s first vaccine against COVID-19, reports TASS.

“I will be the first to take this vaccine when the Serbian specialists say that it is good. I am happy that the Russians produced the vaccine that was expected before November, ”he said.

However, Vucic stressed, Serbian specialists must confirm that the drug is safe and reliable.

According to the Serbian leader, it is important that the vaccine appears as soon as possible, because “this is a salvation for our economy,” he stressed.

On August 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the registration of the first coronavirus vaccine in Russia. The drug, developed by the N. Gamaleya Center and named “Sputnik V” by analogy with the launch of the first artificial Earth satellite in 1957, was planned to be registered on August 12.

The first recipients of the vaccine from the Gamaleya Center will be health workers and the elderly. The effectiveness of the drug can be assessed by the results of the formation of population immunity.
