The monument to Viktor Tsoi will be installed in St. Petersburg a year after it was made. The statue of the rock singer, the leader of the Kino group, will decorate the square at the intersection of Veterans Avenue and Tankista Khrustitsky Street (near Tsoi’s last apartment), reportedly no later than August 31st. The pedestal is already ready, the installation work continues.
The monument has a difficult fate: they wanted to erect it a year ago, but the base of the three-meter bronze statue suddenly cracked. It took a whole year to repair it, but by the momentous date – the thirtieth anniversary of the singer’s death – it was still not possible to make it. But now, at least, there is confidence that the monument will be erected.
It is known that the sculpture was made according to the well-known lifetime poster (photo Yuri Chashkin). The sponsor of the project was the Fund of the Patron of the Arts Yuri Zhorno (among other initiatives of the foundation – the installation of a monument to the singer Fyodor Chaliapin in Alexander Park on the Petrogradskaya side or, for example, to science fiction writers brothers Strugatsky). The contractor of the works is the construction company “Profile”.
