Victims of Beirut Protests Rise to 490

At least 490 people were injured during anti-government protests in Beirut amid an explosion in the port, Lebanese TV channel Al-Manar reported on August 8.

Earlier it was reported about 238 victims, of which 70 demonstrators were hospitalized.

At the same time, the channel, citing a source, denies the information that a Lebanese security officer was mistakenly shot by other security officials during the protests.

On August 8, more than 7,000 Lebanese rallied in the Lebanese capital demanding the resignation of the cabinet and reforms. Demonstrators attempted to storm the ministries of energy, foreign affairs, economy and environment, as well as the building of the Lebanese Banking Association in Beirut.

The people who broke into there destroyed documents and dossiers of departments. As a result, there were clashes between protesters and security officials.

The explosion in the port area in the Lebanese capital occurred on 4 August. Detonated 2.7 tons of ammonium nitrate during welding. The facades of dozens of buildings were destroyed and damaged.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, as a result of the emergency, 158 people were killed, 6 thousand were injured and 21 people were missing.
