The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) plans to build a new Russian aircraft carrier at the Severodvinsk plant “Sevmash”. This was announced on Tuesday, December 22, by the general director of USC Alexei Rakhmanov.
“As soon as the Ministry of Defense makes a decision, we are ready to immediately start designing and building it,” Rakhmanov said on the air of the Russia-24 TV channel.
He explained why USC expects to build a new aircraft carrier at Sevmash.
“Not only the repair of Kuznetsov (the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov – approx.), But also the construction of an aircraft carrier for India suggests that we have this experience. It is concentrated, first of all, of course, at the Sevmash plant. And it is there that we expect to build an aircraft carrier when it is ordered by the military department, ”Rakhmanov added.
On August 23, the general director of USC announced that the restoration of the aircraft carrier “Admiral Kuznetsov” after the fire would cost up to 350 million rubles. He assured that intensive work was launched on the aircraft carrier. Its handover to the Russian Navy is still scheduled for 2022.
The fire on the ship occurred on December 12. As a result, two servicemen were killed, and another 14 people were injured. A criminal case was initiated into the incident.
