Australian scientists said that not all food is safe in old age.

Doctors from universities in Australia, USA, and Qatar have concluded that spicy food can lead to senile dementia.

According to scientists, in people who love hot peppers, the risk of accelerated decay of cognitive functions increases sharply in old age.

To come to this conclusion, physicians studied information on about 5 thousand patients. It has been collected for 15 years. The average age of the participants in the experiment was 63.5 years. The participants in the experiments passed tests for intellectual abilities, filled out diaries during the experiment, recorded everything that they ate in them.

It turned out that frequent consumption of spicy food led to an intense decline in cognitive functions. It’s just that people who ate more than 50 grams of hot peppers daily, about 2 times increased the risk of age-related memory disorders in comparison with those who did not use anything hot.

Scientists call it capsaicin, which is responsible for the sharpness of the pepper’s taste. If earlier it was said about its positive effect on the human body, now they are investigating the reasons for the negative effect of the substance on the brain.
