The World Health Organization (WHO) welcomes all the advances in coronavirus vaccine development, any safe and effective drug will become a global public good. This is stated in the comments of the technical experts of the organization for “RIA Novosti” on Wednesday, August 12.

The organization noted that they are aware that the COVID-19 vaccine was registered in the state register of medicines in Russia on August 11.

“WHO welcomes all advances in research and development of a vaccine against COVID-19. Globally, WHO has been involved in directing and accelerating research and development efforts since January 2020, ”the commentary says.

The organization calls for “prompt, fair and equitable access to any such vaccine worldwide.”

On the eve of the Russian Ministry of Health registered the world’s first vaccine for the prevention of coronavirus infection, developed by the N.F. Gamalei together with the Russian Direct Investment Fund. The novelty is called “Sputnik V”.

The Russian authorities turned to WHO for prequalification – the quality, safety and efficacy of medicines – of this vaccine. In turn, the WHO called for quick access to vaccines against this infection around the world in accordance with the principle “no one should be left on the sidelines.”
