Frosty weather with a temperature of about minus 20 degrees will persist in Moscow over the next week. On Sunday, January 10, the leading employee of the Phobos weather center Yevgeny Tishkovets told about this.

“The coming week in Central Russia will be marked by a real Russian winter, which has not happened for at least the last two or three years. On Monday night, the air in the region will cool down to minus 17-22, in the daytime no more than minus 10-15, “the forecaster told RIA Novosti.

He added that in some places there will be precipitation in the form of snow.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, January 12 and 13, no significant weather changes are expected. In the morning the temperature will be about minus 15-20, in the Upper Volga region the thermometers will drop to minus 20-25, in some places to minus 25-30. During the day, minus 10-15 is forecasted, in the northeast and east of the region – minus 15-20.

By the end of the working week, a southern cyclone will arrive, bringing snow and softening frosts. However, already on the weekend, frosts will intensify again, night temperatures will drop to minus 20-25, in the afternoon it is expected to minus 13-18, which is almost 10 degrees below the established multi-year norm.

According to Tishkovets, frosts will linger in the Russian capital for a long time. At the same time, snowfalls will lead to the growth of snowdrifts up to 30 cm.In the Moscow region, their height can be up to 40 cm.

On the eve of the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of the Russian Federation, Roman Vilfand, said that a number of Russian regions are approaching cold Arctic air, which will lead to truly winter frosts. So, a cold snap will come to St. Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, Komi, Tver, Smolensk and Ivanovo.
