An illegal inspection organized by a group of intruders will result in a penalty of up to five years in prison, follows from the updated article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

As on Sunday, August 23, “RIA Novosti” was explained in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, earlier the law “On Amendments to Article 171 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation” came into force, according to which amendments were made on criminal punishment for carrying out vehicle inspection without accreditation.

“A prerequisite for criminal prosecution is causing major damage to citizens, organizations or the state, or generating income on a large scale,” the Interior Ministry said.

The maximum penalty for this offense will be six months of arrest.

In the event that a crime was committed by a group, the court has the right to impose a sentence of up to 5 years in prison.

In December 2018, it was reported that State Duma Deputy Yevgeny Marchenko made a proposal to transfer the function of carrying out technical inspection of cars to the traffic police. According to him, if the procedure for passing MOT is returned under the control of the State Traffic Inspectorate, the quality of the inspection will be higher, and all the money will go to the budget.

In December 2019, the first reading in the State Duma passed a package of bills aimed at combating the issuance of false diagnostic cards of vehicle inspection.
