The social network Snapchat announced on Wednesday that Donald Trump, already blocked since last week, would soon be permanently banned from the platform, as voices are raised against the measures of the digital giants targeting the outgoing US president and his supporters.

“Last week, we announced an indefinite suspension of President Trump’s profile from Snapchat,” a company spokesperson recalled.

“In the interest of public safety, and given his attempts to spread disinformation, hate speech and incitement to violence, which clearly violate our policies, we have made the decision to terminate his account. permanently, ”he adds.

After the invasion of the Capitol on January 6 by supporters of the Republican billionaire, the major platforms began to purge their services. Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have suspended Donald Trump, indefinitely or for a week in the case of Google’s video platform.

The tech giant and its neighbor Apple have also withdrawn the social network Parler from their application download platforms. Amazon hit the nail on the head by crowding out Talking from its servers, which is like driving it off the internet.

These measures angered the most ardent defenders of the head of state, who faced his second indictment on Wednesday by the House of Representatives for having “incited to insurgency” against the Capitol.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Wednesday ordered Google, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon and Apple to explain their recent decisions.

“The seemingly coordinated actions to exclude the President of the United States from platforms and other important voices are not only terrifying for free speech, they are silencing all those whose political views and beliefs are not aligned with Big Tech bosses, ”he said in a statement.

“All Americans should be concerned about this large-scale censorship and the consequences for free speech,” he added.

Ken Paxton is a staunch support of Donald Trump who has distinguished himself in particular in the appeals against the presidential results in recent months.

The ostracization of the head of state, in particular of his main communication tool, Twitter, has drawn criticism from associations and leaders like Chancellor Angela Merkel, worried about the power of technology companies.
