On November 21, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu discussed with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the country’s Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov the implementation of an agreement on the settlement of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.

He noted that the main highways were taken under control in order to ensure security on the line of contact. In addition, refugees are returning to the region.
The President of Azerbaijan highly appreciated Russia’s efforts to stabilize the situation and the actions of Russian peacekeepers in the region.
“We will discuss issues related to the implementation of the trilateral statement signed by the Presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia. In our opinion, the provisions of the statement are being implemented successfully and this once again demonstrates the readiness of both the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides to put an end to the long-term conflict and come to a political settlement, ”Aliyev added.
Earlier on the same day, Shoigu met in Yerevan with Prime Minister Nikol Pashninyan and Armenian Defense Minister Vagharshak Aratyunyan.
At the talks with the Armenian side, Shoigu said that a peaceful life has been established in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the Russian peacekeepers are fulfilling their tasks in the region.
It became known yesterday that at the request of the Armenian side, Russian border guards would deploy additional forces on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan signed an agreement to end hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh from November 10. The document also provides for the introduction of Russian peacekeepers into the region, the exchange of prisoners between the parties to the conflict, the transfer of a number of regions of the region by Armenia to Azerbaijan and the return of refugees to Karabakh.
