The Korsakov seaport needs federal funds to transform it into a multifunctional deep-water transport hub with a complex of modern cargo and cargo-passenger terminals. The governor of the region raised the issue of financial injections during a conversation with Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin. The proposal to include the project for the reconstruction and expansion of the Korsakov port in the federal project “Seaports of Russia” of the Comprehensive Plan for the Modernization and Expansion of the Main Infrastructure until 2024 will be considered as soon as the island experts provide the figures necessary for making a decision.
It is assumed that the Korsakov hub will be able to pass through itself transit cargo of the Northern Sea Route. Oil and gas production also implies the processing of hydrocarbons in the future.
