At the National Medical Research Center named after V.A. Almazov, the Ministry of Health of Russia created a unified information system to help doctors manage patients with COVID-19. The director of the center, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yevgeny Shlyakhto told about this in an interview with Izvestia. The system helps doctors work with the patient, from the moment of hospitalization to discharge.

According to him, indicators of the number of heart contractions, respiration rate, oxygen level in the blood, indicators of the activity of inflammation were entered into the decision support system.

“Further, the data were analyzed and, on the basis of risk scales, it was calculated where to send the patient – immediately to the intensive care unit or to the infectious diseases department. Or he needs additional advice, for example. The system signaled that the patient needs anti-inflammatory (hormonal or anti-cytokine) therapy, or that the patient’s indicators are normalized and can be prepared for discharge, ”said Evgeny Shlyakhto.

According to him, every doctor and every head of the department now have access to the information system. This allows you to quickly make decisions, limit staff contacts, ensure their protection, quickly streamline current processes, he added.

The academician also spoke about the features of the coronavirus vaccine, developed by the St. Petersburg Almazov Center in conjunction with the Institute of Experimental Medicine. According to him, it is “kefir” based on enterococcus.
