The maximum indicator of collective immunity to coronavirus was recorded among preschoolers and elementary school children. This was announced on Tuesday, October 6, by the Deputy Head of Rospotrebnadzor Elena Yezhlova during her speech at the conference “Molecular Diagnostics and Biosafety – 2020”.

“We carry out a lot of work on serological studies using WHO protocols. 26 regions participate, almost 74.5 thousand people were examined <...> By age groups, the maximum – up to 71% – indicators of population immunity were established in children of preschool and early school age, ”she stressed.

The day before, Rospotrebnadzor said that those who have had seasonal ARVI can acquire immunity to infection with many coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2. However, how effective such immunity is, researchers cannot yet say.

Earlier on the same day, the head of the Gamaleya Center, Alexander Gunzburg, said that collective immunity to COVID-19 is unlikely to appear due to the fact that people will get the infection en masse.

The duration of immunity depends on the form in which the disease took place. For example, a mild form of the disease does not provide long-term immunity.

The spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, began at the end of December last year. The Chinese city of Wuhan became the hotbed of infection. For several months, the disease spread to more than 210 countries of the world. On March 11, WHO declared a coronavirus pandemic.

According to the latest data, 1 237 504 cases of coronavirus were detected in 85 regions in Russia. Over the entire period, 21 663 deaths were recorded, 988 576 people recovered.
