The Russian Permanent Mission is ready to work with any US Permanent Representative to the UN and will strive to establish contacts, Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, said on November 23 in his Telegram channel.

So he reacted to information about the possible appointment as the new US representative of Linda Thomas-Greenfield, who worked in 2013-2017 as Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs.

“We have worked and will continue to work normally with any American permanent representative. Humanly, there was always contact, no matter what they gave out at open sessions of the Security Council. There will be contact with the new permanent representative, in any case, everything that depends on us, we will do for this, ”Polyansky said.

At the same time, the diplomat noted that he did not expect a thaw in Russian-American relations. According to him, any steps to normalize relations between the countries should be carried out through the return of Russian diplomatic property to the United States. In particular, we are talking about real estate in Oysterbay and Maryland and the buildings of the consulate general in San Francisco.

On October 31, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, described his relationship with his US counterpart Kelly Kraft as good. He stressed that Kraft can be “freely dealt with,” and although Russian and American officials understand differences on a number of issues, they never do “anything behind each other’s backs.”
