Nearly three kilograms of cocaine were found in the toilet of a plane operating a commercial flight between Colombia and Mexico City, the Mexican National Guard said Monday.
The drugs, distributed in five small packages, had been left in the trash can of the toilets of the plane, neither the model nor the company of which was specified by the National Guard.
The 2.86 kg of cocaine wrapped in plastic were discovered after the landing by the crew who notified federal authorities.
The five packages were handed over to the attorney general’s office, which is expected to investigate.
Mexico is a major transit route for drugs from South America to the United States or the local market.
Passengers on flights from certain South American countries are usually subject to strict controls upon arrival in Mexico.
