Two strong points of the 102nd Russian military base have been established in the Syunik region in the south of Armenia. This was announced on May 3 by acting. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

“The external security system of Armenia did not undergo changes either before the war or after it. And this system was based, first of all, on the Armenian-Russian joint grouping and the United Regional Air Defense System in the Caucasus region, “Sputnik Armenia quotes Pashinyan.

Pashinyan noted that the foundation of the strongholds will serve as an additional guarantee in ensuring the security of Armenia and its region as a whole.

Armenia is Russia’s ally in the Collective Security Treaty (CSTO).

On February 22, it became known that Armenia is interested in expanding and building up the potential of the 102nd Russian military base in Gyumri.

According to the Minister of Defense of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan, expanding the capabilities of the base allows increasing the potential of the joint group, which operates on a bilateral basis.

The base was established in March 1995 on the basis of the Treaty on the Legal Status of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, signed on August 21, 1992, and the Treaty on the Russian military base on the territory of the Republic of Armenia.

The main task of the servicemen of the base in Gyumri is an allied mission to maintain the CIS Joint Air Defense System and timely response to threats arising on the southern borders.
