Analysts of the Association of European Businesses (AEB) summed up the sales results in the Russian automotive market in July 2020.
According to data published on August 6, in the second month of summer 2020, new car sales in Russia increased by 6.8% compared to July last year: Russians bought 141,924 cars. 139,968 vehicles were sold in July 2019.
“July was the first month of this year with a significant increase over the previous year, indicating signs of a welcome recovery in the market. Such a significant result is due, on the one hand, to the deferred demand of the previous months, which arose during the suspension of activities, and, on the other hand, to the weakening of the ruble, “said Thomas Stärzel, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee.
According to the forecast of AEB analysts, in 2020 sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles will amount to 1 million 339 thousand units. At the same time, sales will decrease by 23.9%.
On August 3, it was reported that 589,148 new passenger cars were sold in Russia in the first half of 2020, which is 17% less than a year earlier.
