The management of the Mariinsky Theater has canceled four ballet performances due to an outbreak of coronavirus infection in the troupe. This was announced to Izvestia on Thursday, August 13 by a source in the theater.

According to him, the ballet performances Giselle and The Four Seasons have been canceled. In the theater, as noted, several dozen cases of COVID-19 have been identified.

The exact number of cases has not been specified.

The fact that the coronavirus was detected in the Mariinsky ballet dancers became known on August 11.

On August 3, former soloist of the Bolshoi Theater ballet, teacher-tutor Vladimir Nikonov was hospitalized in Moscow with pneumonia. It is noted that the 82-year-old Honored Artist of the RSFSR is currently under the supervision of doctors. Nikonov is suspected of having a coronavirus infection.

In total, since the beginning of the pandemic, 907,758 people with COVID-19 have been identified in Russia, of which 15,384 deaths, 6,098 people recovered.
