The head of the department for work with compatriots abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Oleg Malginov, will be appointed Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Uzbekistan. This was reported on Tuesday, September 15, by TASS, citing a source in the State Duma.
“Malginov is appointed ambassador to Uzbekistan. <...> The country is strategically important for us, ”the source said.
At the moment, the Russian Embassy in Uzbekistan is headed by Vladimir Tyurdenev.
Malginov has been working in diplomacy since 1979. In 1979-1983 he served at the USSR Embassy in India. Until 1993, he was Deputy Head of the Human Rights Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR, Russia.
From 1994 to 1999 – Senior Advisor to the Permanent Mission of Russia at the UN and other international organizations in Geneva (Switzerland), then Deputy Director of the Department for International Humanitarian Cooperation and Human Rights of the Russian Foreign Ministry and Deputy Director for Compatriots and Human Rights at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
From 2003 to 2006 he was the Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Bangladesh, from 2011 to 2016 – the Russian Ambassador to Romania.
He was awarded the Order of Friendship, the Medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree.
Earlier, in August, Russian President Vladimir Putin made reshuffles in the embassy corps in the Gambia, Senegal and Gabon. Dmitry Kurakov was appointed ambassador to Senegal, as well as concurrently to Gambia, Ilyas Iskandarov to Gabon.
