French President Emmanuel Macron called the attack on a teacher in the south of Paris a terrorist act and called on citizens to rally. He stated this on October 16 after arriving at the scene.

Earlier on Friday, an unknown person beheaded a professor of history at Conflans-Saint-Honorine College, presumably because the teacher showed cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad during one of the lectures. The police arrived at the scene and eliminated the alleged attacker.

“One of our fellow citizens was killed today because he taught, because he taught students freedom of speech, freedom to believe and not to believe. He was the victim of a typical Islamist terrorist attack, “- quoted by Macron Reuters.

The French President called on the citizens of the country to unite and stressed that “obscurantism and the accompanying violence will not win.”

According to the newspaper Le Figaro, the teacher showed cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad on October 5 at a lesson dedicated to freedom of speech. After that, the man began to receive messages with threats from his parents, he even turned to the police about this.

On the same day, the media reported that the attacker was an 18-year-old native of Moscow. The Russian diplomatic mission in Paris noted that the competent French authorities did not contact them with inquiries about the Russian origin of the alleged murderer of the professor.
