One person died and two were injured as a result of the attack on the Karabakh city of Shushi by the Azerbaijani armed forces. This was announced on Wednesday, October 28, by the State Service for Emergency Situations of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR).

“Shushi is being shelled from the Smerch multiple launch rocket system. There is one dead and two wounded among the civilian population, ”the message posted on the service’s Facebook page says.

Earlier that day, Baku accused Yerevan of shelling the territory of Azerbaijan.

On the eve of the aide of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Hikmet Hajiyev, said that the republic was inclined to dialogue with Armenia on the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh, but the statement that the region is Armenian was one of the reasons for the breakdown of the negotiations.

Another escalation of the conflict in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic took place on September 27. Yerevan and Baku blamed each other for shelling and death of civilians.

On October 9 in Moscow, the parties agreed on an armistice, which was thwarted. Then two more ceasefire agreements were reached – the last one came into force on October 26 after negotiations in the United States. It is also not respected by the parties to the conflict.

Armenia and Azerbaijan have disputed the ownership of Nagorno-Karabakh since 1988. Then the autonomous region announced its secession from the Azerbaijan SSR, after several years of hostilities Baku lost control over this territory.
