The United States intends to maintain its military presence in Syria, because, according to the American authorities, a threat is still emanating from the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in the Russian Federation). This was announced by Pentagon spokesman John Kirby.
At the same time, the representative of the American military department stressed that the main part of the group had already been defeated, reports TASS.
“We still maintain our presence in Syria to continue to persecute IS. This is part of our coalition efforts. They (the terrorists – Ed.) Are still there and are still a threat, “Kirby said.
Earlier, on March 4, the interdepartmental coordination headquarters of Russia and Syria issued a joint statement, which stated, in particular, that the goal of Western Western countries in Syria is to plunder the country’s national wealth, and not to fight terrorism.
The document noted that for this, the technology of crushing the country is used and the US military presence in the northeastern part of Syria, rich in hydrocarbons, is being increased.
The armed conflict in Syria has been going on since 2011. In 2017, the victory over the terrorist group ISIS in Syria and Iraq, banned in Russia, was announced.
