Georgian Justice Minister Tea Tsulukiani said that the former president of the country, Mikhail Saakashvili, in the Georgian prison will be provided with the best food, like all other prisoners. Her words are broadcast by the Georgian TV company Rustavi 2.
The minister stressed that Georgian prisons are managed “according to the highest international standards.”
“He (Saakashvili. – Ed.) Will have the best food. In November, even [использовать] frozen meat, and we feed the inmates with fresh meat and seasonal fruits and have developed several types of menus, ”explained Tsulukiani.
She noted that in the Georgian penitentiary system, all convicts receive equal conditions, regardless of who they are.
The head of the Ministry of Justice also noted that Saakashvili will not be able to cause unrest in Georgia, regardless of whether he is at large or in prison, since the current political power in the state is strong enough.
Saakashvili announced on August 27 that he intends to return to Georgia, where parliamentary elections will be held on October 31. Saakashvili said that in recent years he has gone through a lot and gained enough experience and knowledge “to better serve his country and avoid mistakes.” He admitted that during his presidency in this country, he did wrong things.
Saakashvili was the president of Georgia from January 2004 to November 2013. In 2013, he left the country a few days before the expiration of the term of office of the head of state. Immediately after this, four criminal cases were initiated against him, two of which have already been sentenced. The ex-president of Georgia faces 11 years in prison. In December 2015, Saakashvili was deprived of his Georgian citizenship.
