The air defense of Azerbaijan shot down a Su-25 attack aircraft belonging to the armed forces of Armenia. This information was released on Saturday, October 17, by the press service of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

“On October 17, at about 11:11 am, the Azerbaijani Air Defense units destroyed the Su-25 attack aircraft of the Armenian Armed Forces with precise fire, which attempted to inflict air strikes on the positions of our units in the Jebrail direction,” the ministry said.

In turn, the press secretary of the Armenian Defense Ministry Shushan Stepanyan on his Facebook denied Baku’s statement about the destruction of the Su-25 of the republic, calling it disinformation.

On the night of October 16-17, Baku reported about the shelling of the city of Ganja from the Armenian side. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the republic, as a result of the attack, 13 people died, another 52 were injured. These accusations were denied in Yerevan.

The aggravation of the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, which began back in 1988, occurred on September 27. The parties accused each other of the shelling. The fighting continues to this day, despite the agreement reached between the two countries during the talks in Moscow to cease fire.
