Since the Covid-19 catastrophe, wearing a face mask has become the new normal. The Centers for Disease Control recommends people wear face masks in public. New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Maryland require everyone to wear face masks in public places and inside businesses. However, following the local and CDC guidelines is a struggle when you wear glasses, which fog up and abstain you from a clear vision the moment you walk outside. According to a 2011 article by Royal College of Surgeons England, warm air directs upward after wearing a mask, which, when condenses, forms tiny drops of water or vapors that scatter the light and reduce the ability of the lens to transmit contrast. Fostering bacteria are more likely to grow on glasses that have not been cleaned or sanitized in a while. So how to clean your glasses safely and hygienically?

What cloth is best for cleaning glasses?
While microfiber is the fabric commonly used, it may not be the best eyeglass cleaning cloth. Microfiber grew to fame for its signature attribute of cleaning dirt and grime off the classes easily without leaving a mark on the lens. Microfiber cloth does not scratch eyeglasses due to its non-abrasive property and does not leave scratch marks on the lens or the glass.
Cotton is another soft material and does not leave marks, but the fibers of cotton are larger than microfibers, and it is harder to get the dirt off using this version. Finally, the pre-moistened lens tissues or towelettes contain lens cleaner implicitly so that you can skip the use of bottled lens cleaner. These pre-moistened lens cleaners are convenient.
If your glasses’ lenses have an anti-reflective coating, make sure the eyeglass cleaner you plan on using is approved for use on anti-reflective lenses.
Be careful with the way you handle the lenses. Once you get scratches in the lenses, there is no magical cure that will remove them. You will be left with no choice other than to replace them.
How to clean the eyeglass cleaning cloth?
There’s a right way- and plenty of wrong ways- when it comes to cleaning the eyeglass cleaning cloth. If you are washing the eyeglass cleaning cloth through the washing machine, avoid mixing the lint-producing fabrics with it. The lint gets stuck in the pores of the cloth (microfiber) and ends up ruining the cloth. Additionally, avoid the use of bleach, fabric softener, and dryer sheets. These chemicals, along with hot water temperature levels, do not interact well with the cloth.
The best method to clean these clothes would be by using lukewarm clean water and through a washer or your own hands. Heat can hurt the pores of the cloth, especially if it is a microfiber cloth. Hand wash the cloth using a lotion-free dishwashing liquid with clean water and allow the cloth to air-dry.
