The Boris Shchukin Theater Institute received a record number of applications for admission this year. This was announced on Sunday, August 9, by the rector of the university Yevgeny Knyazev.

According to him, the leadership of the institute doubted that it would be possible to recruit a new course due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it was decided to transfer all creative auditions to an online format.

“At first, the teachers were terrified: how to evaluate the guys by looking at the screen, when it is impossible to guess how tall he is, how he smiles, communicates. All our teachers joined, watched and evaluated more than 4500 videos sent for the first round, “Knyazev said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

At the same time, usually in the first round there were 3-3.5 thousand applications from entrants. Thus, this year has become a record for the number of people wishing to enter the Institute. Shchukin.

“And this is for 13 budget places! Another 13 people are a target recruitment from Tula, Kaluga and Yakutia. And 40 paid places. Can you imagine what kind of competition ?! ” – noted Knyazev.

Only the first two stages of selection passed online, and for the third round 85 applicants from all over the country came to Moscow for in-person audition.

In early July, the Russian Institute of Theater Arts (GITIS) announced that it would compile a list of applicants who demonstrate inappropriate behavior upon admission.

On June 19, the Ministry of Education and Science launched the service “Admission to universities online.” With its help, applicants will be able to submit documents to 54 higher educational institutions through the portal of public services.
