President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received on Friday the Director of the Federal Security Service of Russia Alexander Bortnikov. This was reported on December 18 by the press service of the Azerbaijani leader.
“Bortnikov conveyed greetings from Russian President Vladimir Putin to the head of state. The meeting discussed the current situation in the region, the settlement of the conflict, the implementation of the points of the trilateral agreement. It was noted that the situation is stable, ”the message says.
In addition, it is noted that during the conversation the parties discussed issues of cooperation in the field of security between Azerbaijan and Russia.
Earlier on Friday, Aliyev agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s words that the crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh should already be considered history. He noted that the ceasefire regime in Karabakh is preserved and becomes “stronger”.
On November 9, Putin, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev signed an agreement according to which hostilities would cease in Nagorno-Karabakh from November 10.
The document also provides for the introduction of Russian peacekeepers into the region, the exchange of prisoners between the parties to the conflict, the transfer of a number of regions by Armenia to Azerbaijan and the return of refugees to Karabakh.
On December 16, Russian sappers cleared 175 hectares of terrain in Nagorno-Karabakh, more than 49 km of roads, over 400 housing buildings and social facilities, discovered and neutralized about 5,000 explosive objects.
