Railway passenger traffic between Russia and Abkhazia will resume from August 7. This was announced on August 6 by Alkhas Vartagava, the first deputy general director of the republican unitary enterprise “Abkhazian Railway”.

“After a four-month hiatus amid the coronavirus pandemic, rail links with Russian cities are resumed. On August 7, the Moscow-Sukhum passenger train leaves Moscow and arrives at the Sukhum railway station on August 9, “TASS reports.

However, there is no such train on the Russian Railways website and it is impossible to buy tickets for it.

The border between Russia and Abkhazia opened on August 1 after Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a relevant order.

Later that day, President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania thanked the Russian authorities for the decision to open the border with the republic.

On the very first day of the opening of the borders, several thousand people entered Abkhazia from Russia. Also, on August 1, the head of the Ministry of Health of the republic Tamaz Tsakhnakia said that Russians who get sick with coronavirus in Abkhazia will receive first aid on the spot. However, they will receive the main treatment at home.

The decision to open the border with Abkhazia was made on July 31 following a meeting of the operational headquarters under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova. The conclusions of Rospotrebnadzor and the Ministry of Health of Russia on the sanitary and epidemiological situation in this country and the readiness of the infrastructure to receive tourists were taken into account.
