A resident of Smolensk paid in stores with someone else’s bank card

More than four thousand rubles were stolen from a 41-year-old resident of Smolensk, who lost his bank card. As reported on October 1 by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Smolensk region, the city dweller applied to the duty station of Smolensk.

The employees of the criminal investigation department sent inquiries to the bank and established retail outlets where the funds were debited from the card, and then the very identity of the buyer.

The unemployed 26-year-old city dweller explained that he had found a bank card on the street and decided to use it, paying for a number of purchases using a contactless method.

Currently, the investigators of the Russian MIA Administration for the city of Smolensk have opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Art. 159.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud using electronic means of payment”. The maximum punishment under the article is imprisonment for up to three years. The investigation of the criminal case continues.
