In Birobidzhan, a new program to control the number of homeless animals has begun. The neutering of the first batch of dogs is scheduled for Tuesday. While work is being carried out in test mode.

According to the mayor of the city Alexander Golovaty, cited by IA EAOMedia, the municipal contract for December was signed between the administration and the public organization Good Hands. Under this contract, a list of 16 stray dogs was formed, with which work will begin to debug the mechanism.

Dogs are taken from the streets to a shelter, where they spend 10 days in quarantine to find out if they have any particularly dangerous diseases. Then the animals are vaccinated and treated against parasites, sterilized, after which tags are installed on the ears. Then the animals are released into their natural habitat.

The work on trapping homeless animals will continue in 2021. Funds for the implementation of the program are allocated both in the city and regional budgets. The regional ministry of agriculture is the executor of the events.

Previously, the leadership of Birobidzhan proposed organizing a systematic registration of pets in the city so that local residents take responsibility for the pets.
