When we hear about the word armor, we think about security personnel or people from the medieval period wearing them on the battlefield. There was a time when armors were worn by the people who used to go for far in order to protect themselves from severe injuries. Back then, armors were heavy and were worn with respect to the vulnerability and social importance of the wearer.
Armors changed with time and the type of warfare. With modern technology, the armors are light now, with a variety of apparel suited for modern-day warfare.
There are three main categories of armors depending on the materials they are made up of, which are as follows:
1) Leather
Armors were made up of leather or fabric and, in some cases, both.
Primitive soldiers used to protect themselves with leather hides and helmets. Chinese warriors used to wear five or six layers of rhinoceros skin leather armor, also worn by the Mongols.
2) Iron or steel:
Rings of iron and steel were interwoven to make armor. These armors were known as chain mail, as the pattern of the armor was woven in a chain. These were worn in the form of a simple shirt in the Roman Empire.
3) Plate armor:
These armors are made of metal, horn, wood, plastic, or some other resistant material that could save the wearer from the attack of weapons used at that particular time.
4) Modern armor:
The soldiers nowadays don’t fight with swords or spears. Arms and ammunition are used in today’s battlefield, and those animal skin, iron or steel, and plate armors cannot protect people from bullets fired in the warfare. Today’s modern armor is made to protect the wearer from the ammunition used in the field. The shots fired from the rifles, pistols, and machine guns can penetrate the flesh and often create severe wounds.
In modern times, soldiers suffer far more severe wounds from projectiles and fragments as compared to the soldiers of an earlier time who suffered slicing and stabbing. All unprotected parts of the body are vulnerable, but protecting the torso and head is essential to prevent severe injuries and deaths caused by modern-day ammunition. So, to protect the crucial areas of the body. Modern arm forces have developed helmets and body armors to prevent the soldiers from getting hurt in their respective fields.
Armors are not just meant for security personal. With the tensions around the world, a civilian is also not protected from any danger. People have illegal access to arms and ammunition, and they can do anything in order to earn money, including someone’s life or hurting them badly. Every civilian needs to protect themselves as they cannot be equipped with arms to defend themselves, but they can definitely wear armor to prevent injuries caused by the bullets. Life is not cheap. We cannot be ignorant to the fact that everyone’s life is in danger nowadays, and being ordinary people, we need to take care to protect ourselves from unwanted or uncertain happening that will put our lives in danger. That is why we as civilians should consider wearing the armors in public places.
