In Belarus, the number of people detained at unauthorized protests on Sunday, December 27, was 12 people.
“There are reports of pinpoint arrests in different districts of Minsk, as well as in Brest,” a statement on the website of the Viasna human rights center, unregistered in the republic, says.
It is noted that several people were detained in the Sokol microdistrict of Minsk after they went to a local rally with white and red flags. In addition, it is known about the detentions in Smolevichi and Svetlogorsk.
Last Sunday, December 20, the Viasna center reported that more than 140 people had been detained during protests in the country.
Protest actions have been taking place in Belarus since the election day on August 9, in which Alexander Lukashenko won with 80.1% of the vote. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya took the second place with 10.12%, she did not recognize the results of the vote.
After the elections, dissatisfied with the results took to the streets. The opposition calls for continuing protests until new elections are announced.
On December 15, Tikhanovskaya said that street protests would not stop in the country. According to her, the Belarusians will switch to new methods of peaceful struggle – in the form of “partisanism”.
