Stanislav Stankevich, a political scientist and adviser to former Russian President Boris Yeltsin, told URA.RU that the wife of the head of the Russian state, Naina, smoothed out her husband’s angry outbursts. Throughout his career, Yeltsin was in confrontation with a number of parties, politicians and movements.

If it were not for Naina’s balancing influence, Yeltsin’s policy could have been sharper, and the emerging disagreements in the country’s leadership more acute, Stankevich said.

The head of the presidential administration in 1993-1996, Sergei Filatov, believes that Naina Yeltsina did not have political influence, and did not try to have it either. “She behaved very correctly,” added Filatov, who considers Naina a “modest” person.

Recall that on March 14, Naina Yeltsina turned 89 years old. Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated her on her birthday.
