Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the CTAC news agency reported.
The Chinese leader expressed the hope that Beijing and Pyongyang will jointly contribute to ensuring peace and stability in the region in the future.
“We intend to successfully defend, strengthen and develop relations between China and the DPRK together with our Korean comrades, as well as contribute to the long-term and stable development of the socialist principles of the two countries,” the congratulatory telegram said.
According to Jinping, he met with Kim Jong-un several times and the parties reached “mutual understanding on strengthening and improving relations between the two countries.” He stressed that the PRC and the DPRK have opened a new historical page in bilateral relations.
