The military announced Wednesday the record seizure of 4.2 tons of cocaine from a fishing boat in the Atlantic Ocean off the West Indies ten days earlier.

“At dawn on Sunday January 17, 2021, the Germinal surveillance frigate of the Armed Forces in the West Indies (FAA) captured 4.2 tons of cocaine on a fishing vessel during a patrol in the Atlantic Ocean”, according to a statement.

In total, 177 bales of cocaine “were seized and destroyed” and the “8 apprehended crew members were handed over to the administrative and judicial authorities of their respective countries”, said the armed forces, who did not wish to give the nationalities of the people involved.

Several French services intervened to carry out this international cooperation action.
