The Central District Court of Volgograd arrested a suspect in organizing an extremist cell on the territory of the Volgograd Region. On Friday, July 31, the head of the united press service of the regional courts Yekaterina Valkovskaya told about this.

“By the decision of the Central District Court of Volgograd in relation to MK, suspected of organizing an extremist cell on the territory of the Volgograd region, a preventive measure was chosen in the form of detention until September 28,” TASS quotes her.

Valkovskaya indicated that the court will also choose a measure of restraint for the five detained participants in the extremist cell.

Earlier on the same day, it became known that the Federal Security Service (FSB) carried out an operation during which the Islamist cell of the international extremist organization Tablighi Jamaat, banned in Russia, was defeated and the organizer and five of its ordinary members were detained.

Tablighi Jamaat has been banned in Russia since 2009. The Supreme Court ruled that its participants are trying to fragment Russian territory and “discriminate against Russian citizens on religious grounds.”

Earlier, on June 17, the FSB stopped the activities of Tablighi Jamaat in the Nizhny Novgorod, Penza, Saratov and Ulyanovsk regions. During the special operation, the leaders of the organization, as well as its active participants, were detained.
