Russia could already reach a plateau in terms of the incidence of coronavirus, but before the New Year, the number of new cases will decrease insignificantly. This was announced on Monday, October 26, to RIA Novosti by a virologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences Anatoly Altstein.

“It has approximately slowed down (an increase in the number of cases – Ed.), The measures that have been taken are in effect. <…> A plateau is outlined. It is impossible to say this firmly, but it can be assumed that we are somewhere near the plateau, maybe we are already on the plateau, ”he told the agency.

The virologist stressed that for a long time, up to the New Year, the number of COVID-19 cases in Russia will remain at the level of 16-17 thousand per day, and a slight decrease is expected.

Earlier, on October 24, Alexander Gorelov, deputy director for scientific work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, said that the incidence of COVID-19 in Russia could enter a recession phase in late winter – early spring.
