WASHINGTON | Johnson & Johnson’s COVID vaccine, whose use is suspended in the United States, is expected to be used again, possibly accompanied by “restrictions”, and a decision is expected to be made public by Friday, said White House medical adviser Anthony Fauci on Sunday.

“I don’t think the break will continue beyond Friday. We will most likely have a decision, “Dr Fauci told ABC, referring to the group of experts who are expected to meet soon to assess the possible links between the vaccine and the formation of serious blood clots.
“I think (vaccination) will resume, maybe with restrictions. I’m not sure what it will be, if it will be related to age or gender, or if it will just be accompanied by a warning, ”he added.
Washington on Tuesday suspended the use of the vaccine developed by the American laboratory Johnson & Johnson to investigate six women who developed serious cases of blood clots in association with low levels of platelets after their injection, in the United States.
Members of the expert group, which met for the first time on Wednesday at the request of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the main US public health agency, said they needed more time before deciding to possible restriction of this vaccine.
While saying that he did not want to “anticipate” the decisions of this group, Dr Fauci recalled that serious cases of blood clots were according to him “extraordinarily rare”, and that the decided break should be used to “examine the situation and ensure that we have all the information possible. ”
