The United States of America supports a peaceful and democratic transition in the Kyrgyz Republic. This is stated in the statement of the US Embassy, published on October 13 on the website of the diplomatic mission.
“It is obvious that one of the obstacles to democratic progress is the attempt by organized criminal groups to influence politics and elections,” – noted in Washington. This is evidenced by the bribery of votes during the parliamentary elections on October 4, the violence in Bishkek on October 9, violations at the parliament meeting on October 10, the United States believes.
Washington supports the efforts of Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov, political leaders, civil society and legal scholars to return the country’s political life to constitutional order.
“Citizens and their leaders must continue to fight against the influence of organized crime and corruption on politics. The ultimate goal should be compliance with the Constitution of Kyrgyzstan and the rule of law, ”the embassy added.
Washington also supports the people of Kyrgyzstan at this time and calls on all neighbors of the country and international partners to respect the sovereignty of the republic.
Earlier that day, President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov declared illegal the parliament’s decision to appoint Sadyr Japarov as Prime Minister of the country. The reason he said was the lack of a quorum for making a decision.
On October 12, former President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev appealed to Jeenbekov with an appeal to resign. On October 13, Atambayev was placed in a detention facility of the State Committee for National Security of the republic for organizing mass riots in the country.
On October 10, Jeenbekov expressed his readiness to resign if a new government headed by Sadyr Zhaparov is approved.
