The Federation of American Scientists (FAS) research organization said the US was secretly removing nuclear bombs from Europe. The organization’s experts believe that Washington has cut the number of bombs in Europe by a third, from 150 to 100.
According to the newspaper “Kommersant”, Washington has not officially reported this change in the number of its tactical nuclear weapons in Europe.
FAS experts Hans Christensen and Matt Kord have published an overview of the state of the American nuclear forces. It says that the number of American B61 nuclear gravity bombs has decreased to one hundred.
It was previously believed that Washington has 150 bombs at six NATO bases in Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Turkey.
At the same time, Russia did not receive a corresponding notification, the government officials told the portal. The changes may be related to “upgrading these bombs to improve their accuracy and functionality.” Experts are confident that the number of American bombs at the Turkish Incirlik base could be reduced due to the deterioration of relations between Washington and Ankara.
