On the first day of the border closure in connection with COVID-19, Ukrainian border guards did not allow about 250 foreign citizens into the country. This was announced on Saturday, August 29, by the press secretary of the State Border Service of the country Andrei Demchenko.

“In general, yesterday 8,500 foreigners went to enter Ukraine – these are those who fell under the category of exceptions that allow entry into Ukraine. About 250 foreigners were denied entry to our state, “Demchenko said in a comment to the Ukrainian News agency.

Earlier on the same day, Ukraine once again updated the record for the daily increase in COVID-19 cases. Over the past 24 hours, doctors have identified 2,481 patients with coronavirus.

A few days ago, the Ukrainian government extended until November the adaptive quarantine introduced in the country on August 1 and decided to close the state border for foreigners from August 29 to September 28 due to the worsening situation with coronavirus infection.

According to Worldometer, as of August 29, 116.9 thousand cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Ukraine, 2.4 thousand people died, 56.1 thousand patients recovered.
