In the UK, unemployment rates hit a record decade between April and June, according to the BBC.
The National Statistical Office of Great Britain cites data on a quarterly drop in the number of working citizens, which amounted to 220,000 people. This is the largest drop since the end of the global economic crisis in 2009. During the pandemic, workers from the older age group, from the young age group and workers employed in the primary sector of the economy fell under the cuts.
As long as millions of citizens remain under government support due to the pandemic, the UK unemployment rate will be estimated at 3.9% – not a significant difference from the previous year. However, according to experts, this is just the calm before the storm.
