US President Donald Trump announced that he will soon nominate a candidate for the position of judge of the Supreme Court, which was previously held by Ruth Ginsburg.

As candidates for the post, the American leader mentioned the names of two women – Amy Coney Barrett and Barbara Lagoa, Reuters writes on September 19.

Ginsburg, the oldest member of the US Supreme Court, died at 88 due to complications from pancreatic cancer on September 18.

She was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993 and became the second woman in US history to hold this position. She also gained a reputation as a liberal and has fought for women’s rights throughout her career.

Trump called Ginzburg a “wonderful woman” and admitted that the news of her passing upset him greatly. On Saturday, state flags were lowered over the White House and other government buildings in Washington in connection with the death of a woman.
