Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reiterated his confidence in the U.S. electoral system on Friday, although he avoided commenting directly on incumbent President Donald Trump’s allegations of fraud.

“I know people are eager to see the results, but we are confident that the processes in the United States are going the right way,” he said.

“The United States has been managing their elections well for decades and centuries,” he added, making only general comments.

Mr. Trudeau explained his extreme caution in speaking by the fact that no foreign influence whatsoever should be exerted on democratic electoral processes.

On Thursday, Mr. Trump denounced “illegal votes” in a speech filled with allegations not based on any proven fact. His rival, ex-vice president Joe Biden, is coming closer and closer to amassing the 270 electoral college votes needed to win the election.

For Bloc leader Yves-François Blanchet, who does not have to exercise the same restraint as the Prime Minister of Canada, it seems clear that Mr. Biden will win and that the courts will never agree with Mr. Trump on his complaints of electoral fraud.

In his view, the arrival of a Biden administration will force the Trudeau government to ensure that it has a real “capacity for intelligent negotiation” with the United States.

“The Canadian government could say, before, that when it doesn’t work it’s because in the White House there is a funny guy, unpredictable and dangerous,” he said.

New Democratic Party House leader Peter Julian also ventured to argue that he no longer has any doubts that Joe Biden will become the next President of the United States.
