The Yaroslavl Regional Scientific Library has collected 400 volumes of fiction and popular science books and 200 copies of magazines for transfer to the libraries of the UFSIN institutions. The gift was made within the framework of the “Your friends are books” campaign.

According to the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service, the institutions are in great demand for new books and replenishment of the library. Prisoners read a lot, and this is encouraged by the leadership of the institutions. As a rule, fiction and popular science literature is in demand.

The Penitentiary Department conducted a small study to determine the reading preferences of prisoners. As it turned out, classical Russian literature is mostly in demand within the school curriculum. Prisoners enjoy reading “War and Peace” by Leo Tolstoy, “Crime and Punishment” by Dostoevsky. Among the top favorite books are Bulgakov, The Master and Margarita.
