In recent days, the night frost, reaching -8 Celsius, brought the Volga closer to its winter state – that is, freeze-up. Ice floes have already formed on the water surface, which occupied almost the entire area of ​​the river – Kostroma and Kostroma residents are already posting photos on this topic in their accounts on social networks. A little more current weather, just a couple of days – and the Volga will rise completely.
Which, in general, is dangerous: in the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations, the beginning of freeze-up is the time of headaches and frequent trips to various kinds of incidents that happen to fishermen and just careless citizens who go out onto the fragile ice. Therefore, until the time when the ice thickness does not increase to a safe 15 centimeters, rescuers will have to patrol the shores of reservoirs.
Back in early November, the city authorities of Kostroma announced a month on safety on water bodies in winter – prohibitory signs were installed on the Volga and Kostroma river embankments, respectively.
