The US Senate Special Committee on Intelligence has released the fifth part of a report on the results of a bipartisan investigation into Russia’s “interference” in the 2016 presidential election. This was reported by TASS on August 18.
“The fifth and final part focuses on the counterintelligence threat, describing a wide range of Russian efforts to influence Donald Trump’s campaign headquarters and the 2016 elections. In this part, the committee sets out its conclusions in detail, considering many aspects of the counterintelligence threat posed by the operation of Russian influence, ”the statement says.
The document examines the contacts of Konstantin Kilimnik, one of the defendants in the investigation of former Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller, and ex-Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort. The former Trump ally, as Mueller found out earlier, lied to the FBI, the special attorney’s office and the grand jury about his contacts with Kilimnik.
