State Duma Deputy Vladimir Gutenev believes that the creation of a mechanism to counter the extraterritorial sanctions of third countries in the European Union is long overdue.

According to him, earlier European officials were afraid to make this decision, as they were afraid for their own career. However, now the talk is already “about the slaughter of the European economy to please the economic and political interests of the United States,” Gutenev said.

According to the parliamentarian, Germany’s position on the issue related, inter alia, to Washington’s opposition to the construction of Nord Stream 2 should be actively supported by “old, economically strong Europe,” RT reports.

Prior to this, the EU Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Markus Ederer, said that Brussels was developing a mechanism to counter the extraterritorial sanctions of third countries.

They started talking about such measures after the United States began to actively oppose the Nord Stream-2 project.
